“Therefore, everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.” (Matthew 7:24-25)

Jesus tells a short and important parable in which the characters are two builders who construct similar buildings with very different results. In the passage Jesus is quite clear about the importance of the foundation of each of the buildings… they are the point of the parable.

Today we so often struggle through this world searching for answers and hoping to find our way forward, and in doing so, many grasp on to the many temptations this world offers. They often look promising at the outset, but so often we find that these supposed solid foundation crumble as the waves and winds and crash the shore of our lives.

Jesus Christ is the rock upon which we must build our foundation. Moses said: I will proclaim the name of the Lord.  Oh, praise the greatness of our God!  He is the Rock, his works are perfect, and all his ways are just. (Deuteronomy 32:3-4). David stated, “The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, … my shield, … my high tower” (2 Samuel 22:2-3).
