Being thankful isn’t just for the Thanksgiving holiday—Scripture tells us to be “. . . thankful in everything, in all circumstances” (1 Thessalonians 5:18). When we find ourselves overwhelmed with burdens and worried about tomorrow, we can praise God for who He is and His promise to never leave us or forsake us.
Gratitude or thankfulness comes from the Latin word “gratus”, which is defined as a feeling of appreciation felt by and/or similar positive response shown by the recipient of kindness, gifts, help, favors, or other types of generosity, to the giver of said gifts. Gratitude is a fundamental ingredient to a deep and meaningful life.
Scripture is replete with stories of thankfulness—Men, women, children, kings, and sinners all praising God. The Psalms are a book of praise with more references to thankfulness, gratitude, and praise than any other subject. In our world today with all our challenges, we often fail to stop and give God praises and thanksgiving for the many blessings we receive.
