Judas is one of Biblical history’s most unfortunate and tragic figures. He became a pawn in Satan’s evil game to destroy the Messiah, an act that would ultimately fail as prophecy predicted in Genesis 3:14 – 15. Jesus invited him to be one of His original twelve disciples.
It’s natural for people to have strong or mixed feelings about Judas Iscariot. Some feel a sense of hatred toward him for his act of betrayal, others feel pity, and yet even some throughout history have considered him a hero? Very rarely will you ever hear of a child given the name “Judas”.
Judas Iscariot is typically remembered for one thing: his betrayal of Jesus. He was one of the twelve disciples who lived with and followed Jesus for three years. He witnessed Jesus’ ministry, His teaching, and His many miracles. He was the treasurer for the group and used this trusted position to steal from their resources (John 12:6).
So, what happened in this man’s soul that led him so far from the trust bestowed upon him by his friend and the savior of the world? Join us this week at Sedona United Methodist Church as the Rev. Fred Mast continues a sermon series on those that followed Jesus in an inspired message entitled “How Much Silver Will It Take?”
