“For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are the sons of God” (Romans 8:13-14).
None of us can overcome our shortcomings and find our way in life without God’s help. Even if we could by our own will alter our actions, only God can profoundly change our hearts. Having received God’s Spirit, Paul described his new outlook on life: “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ lives in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me” (Galatians 2:20).
We cannot succeed at living a converted life strictly by our own efforts. We succeed through God’s power and leading—The glory and credit go to Him. To fully imitate Christ, we must ask God for help—Through God’s Spirit we are able to bring our thoughts, attitudes, and actions in line with His. But we must allow God’s Spirit to become the guiding force in our lives to produce the qualities of a Christian life.
To grasp how God’s Spirit works within us, we must understand what God’s Spirit is. Join us this week at Sedona United Methodist Church as the Rev. Fred Mast shares a message entitled “The Spirit Changes Everything” as we look at Jesus’ promise of a “Helper” coming in the 14th chapter of John’s gospel.
Sunday mornings we enter the spirit of worship featuring meaningful and uplifting music, special times of prayer and passionate life changing messages designed to move you closer in your relationship with Jesus Christ and others.
