In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. (John 1:1-5)
Jesus . . . What comes to your mind when you hear that name? Maybe you think of the amazing birth that took place in a little town on a cold night in a dark damp cave. Or maybe you think of the great miracles He worked, feeding the five thousand with five loaves and a few fish, healed the sick, made the blind to see, turned water to wine, and even raised a friend from the dead. How he conquered the grave himself raising after three days.
It is easy and even commonplace for us to picture Jesus in this light—it’s important for us to have this picture of Jesus. John said, ‘in the beginning he was with God and through Him all things were made’. Peter called him “Son of the living God.” (Matthew 16:16) Jesus was fully divine—All knowing and all powerful. And yet the scriptures make it clear that Jesus was also “fully human”. Jesus felt, experienced, and lived everything we ever have or ever will.
We often struggle in thinking of Jesus in these terms, preferring instead to think of him in only divine terms—but God came into this world to show us the way we are to live and love one another. Join us this week at Sedona United Methodist Church as we begin our Lenten Journey and the Rev. Fred Mast begins a Sermon Series entitled “Jesus—God With Us”. Sunday mornings we enter the spirit of worship at 9:30 am featuring meaningful and uplifting music, special times of prayer and passionate life changing messages designed to move you closer in your relationship with Jesus Christ and others.
Immediately following worship, you are encouraged and invited to stay and join us in our Fellowship Hall for the friendliest and best fellowship time anywhere featuring delicious snacks and great coffee and always friendship.
