“In any situation, what you ARE determines what you see, what you SEE determines what you DO.”

Dr. Haddon Robinson, Author/Theologian

It is one of the most oft told stories, especially in children’s Sunday school. There you are standing on a hillside when you come face to face with giant 9-foot tall warrior taunting & challenging you—How do you view him? Is this giant an insurmountable obstacle that you should turn and run from just as fast as your feet will carry you, or is this an opportunity for the glory of God to be revealed? We all know that underdogs can and do win–and we love to root for the underdog. That’s what the David versus Goliath legend teaches; in fact many of us have witnessed it with their own eyes.

Our Goliath may be an addiction, habit, attitude, a job loss, financial problems, relational problem, or illness. We all face so many challenges and obstacles in fact they seem to be more a part of our everyday lives. But they can also teach us about God’s amazing power to help us win a victory despite the odds. We can look at Goliath in one of two ways: through the eyes of the faithless, or through the eyes of the faithful.

Join us this week at Sedona UMC as Pastor Fred continues a series of sermons entitled “The Power of One” in a sermon titled “Facing the Giants” and looking at the story of faith shown through the life of one young and innocent bystander—thrust into a battle not of his choosing. A battle that propels young David into one of the most important and influential figures in all of biblical history.

Sunday mornings we enter spirit filled worship at 9:30 a.m. featuring meaningful times of prayer, joyous music, and life messages that will help move you closer in your relationship with Jesus Christ.
