The scene, Jerusalem, by the sheep gate—a pool that in Hebrew is called Bethzatha, in which shepherds came to wet their sheep in preparation for market. The porches or colonnades were covered with invalids who coveted a chance to bathe in the miraculous curative qualities attributed to the pool, particularly in those times when the waters churned. The King James Version follows an ancient manuscript explained by local legend, “An angel went down at a certain season into the pool, and troubled the water: whosoever then first stepped in was made whole from whatever ailment might trouble them.” Can you imagine yourself sitting by this pool, an invalid for some 38 years? 38 years of longing to be made whole, waiting for just the right moment to once again put behind him the ailment holding him back from living the life he has only dreamed of living. Isn’t that so often the case with us; desiring to be made whole whether it be an ailment, a relationship gone wrong, or some other weight bearing heavy upon our soul—simply dreaming of being made whole once again. Join Pastor Fred this week as he continues a sermon series based on the miracles of Jesus, this week focusing on the miracle story told in the 5th chapter of John’s Gospel. Come and experience the love of God, a powerful force; the strongest force there is in this world. Worship begins at 9:45am.
