John Wesley believed that “means of grace” included both “works of piety” and “works of mercy.” He taught that people must be Christians in both word and deed, both of which were to express the love of God. He believed that Christians must grow in God’s grace, which first prepares us for belief, then accepts us when we respond to God in faith, and sustain us as we do good works and participate in God’s mission.
On October 5th at 9:30am, the Christian Education Team at Sedona United Methodist Church will sponsor Christian Education Sunday. The worship service that day will highlight different aspects of Christian Education at SUMC. Rev. Jimelvia Martin will explain the value of Christian Education in her message. The theme for the day will be: “Christian Education Is Not Just for Children!” Some of those highlights will include a short video slide show of VBS 2014, a musical presentation by the Youth Sunday School, and a skit performed by the SUMC Drama Group, directed by Jeff Dunn. To further the concept of adult involvement in Christian Education, SUMC will host a Sign-up Fair in Fellowship Hall following the worship service. Everyone is invited to attend the fair and to enjoy fellowship refreshments at the conclusion of the service. Those attending will have the opportunity to learn about the various adult Christian study opportunities and to sign up for reading programs and Bible Studies, such as: Anna Circle Bible Study, Coed Wednesday Night Bible Study, United Methodist Women’s Reading Program, the SUMC Library. People will also be able to volunteer to assist in the Nursery or the Youth Sunday School class or ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages). There will even be an opportunity for people to propose new areas of study.
Nursery care is always available and all are very welcome! SUMC is located at 110 Indian Cliffs Road off the Back O’Beyond roundabout of Route 179 in Sedona.
