To restore a passion for Christ, we need to remember the great privilege of being called to become a follower of Jesus. We find this invitation extended to each of us in the gospel of Matthew. There we discover Jesus’ summons was simply, “Follow me.” Rev. Phyllis Averill, retired clergy, will bring a message that extends the invitation to make a new commitment to that call of discipleship by following Jesus, spending time with Jesus, and seeking to carry on Jesus’ work. One meaningful way to carry on the work of Jesus would be to enter into the observation of “One Great Hour of Sharing” which will be celebrated at Sedona United Methodist Church this Sunday at 9:30. One Great Hour of Sharing is the primary way in which the ministry of the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) is celebrated and funded. When a natural disaster occurs, whether it is an earthquake in Haiti or a hurricane on the Gulf Coast, UMCOR is there as the presence of the Church. Furthermore, the efforts of UMCOR continue long after the news coverage of the disaster wanes.
Sedona UMC is located at 110 Indian Cliffs Road, just off the Back O’ Beyond roundabout on Route 179 in Sedona. Nursery and Sunday School every week and all are welcome! Many opportunities exist to be part of this season of Lent including bible study, yoga wellness classes, and choir. Our three-part series, “The Church Struggles with Homosexuality,” has been postponed until May due to illness. Watch this space for reschedule dates! Call our office for more information at 282-1780.
