What is your relationship with your possessions?  We live in a culture that encourages us to accumulate & consume, to put our trust in our financial portfolios, to measure our lives by the abundance of our wealth.  Idolization of material goods is a fine line that is easily crossed if we are not spiritually aware and spiritually healthy.  The words of Psalm 50 tell us that everything in the world belongs to God–such a different understanding than a culture that teaches us to turn even non-material things like time or people’s skills into commodities.  The heart of Luke’s 12th Chapter (the Parable of the Rich Fool and Jesus’ teaching about it) challenges us to think about our relationship with our possessions and to put our trust fully in God.  This Sunday we’ll consider material wealth’s role in our lives as we look to follow Jesus.
