Sedona UMC altarLife is full of challenges and obstacles, and often we let them get the better of us.  You might say, “I’d like to have a better relationship with my kids, but we just have too much history.”  Jesus heard that kind of ‘but’ from the disciples when he asked them to feed the hungry crowd of 5000 in the wilderness in Mark 6:30-44.  “We’d like to feed the crowd, Jesus, but we don’t have enough money to buy that much bread.”  Our challenge is to move past the word ‘but’ and replace it with a ‘so.’  Jesus tell them, ‘We need to feed the crowd, so let’s gather all the food we have and trust in God.’  They do, and somehow five loaves of bread and two fish are enough to satisfy everyone.

Not every problem has that easy of a solution, but the story teaches us not to give up in the face of adversity.  When you face a challenge in your life, don’t let the word ‘but’ get the best of you.  Instead of giving up, keep praying and keep struggling until you find a solution.
