The disciples went and did as Jesus had instructed them. They brought the donkey and a colt and placed their cloaks on them for Jesus to sit on. A very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, while others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. The crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed shouted, Hosanna to the Son of David!” “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!” “Hosanna in the highest heaven!” (Matthew 21:6-9)
It is traditionally believed that Jesus’ earthly ministry, from baptism to crucifixion, was a period of three years—roughly 1000 days. The writers of the Gospels attempt to summarize this entire period for us—but clearly, they believed that the final week of Jesus’ life was the most important. We call this “Holy Week” and the beginning of this week is called “Palm Sunday”.
Jesus is the greatest gift ever given to humanity. He was born in obscurity, with no fanfare not in some palace but in a damp dark cave. Growing up we hear little of Him, and when we do there is a gentle humbleness. In His ministry, we realize His wisdom and compassion. During His final days here on this earth we see His unfailing love and mercy. And in His resurrection, we experience His Power and Majesty. As we reflect on the remarkable life of Jesus Christ, we are challenged to ask ourselves, “Am I willing to follow Jesus all the way to the cross and beyond?”
Join us this week at Sedona United Methodist Church as our Chancel Choir leads a very special worship service filled with beautiful meaningful songs, scripture that paint amazing pictures, and message by Rev.
