“My friends, what good is it for one of you to say you have faith if your actions do not prove it? Can that faith save you?” (James 2:14) The founder of the Methodism, John Wesley emphasized “inward and outward holiness”, which stressed the essential link between heart holiness and holy living. There was a time however when Wesley struggle to understand what God was truly calling him to do and be, and whether his life was making any impact at all.

Wesley developed a close relationship with the Moravian’s and Bishop Peter Bohler who once urged Wesley to “Preach faith till you have it, and then, because you have it you will preach faith.” Wesley received this advice after sharing his personal feelings of inadequacy with Bohler. This counsel from Bohler would prove to be just what Wesley needed in coming to understand the means of grace.

The means of grace are all the ways God works grace into our lives, from before the time we come to know him through to the day we are glorified with Christ in the next life.
