“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16, one of the most recognizable and hailed Bible verses in all of Christianity. Though short in length, this verse is deeply profound, defining the essence and values of Christian religion at its core and arguably defining the meaning and example of love for all people and all times.
To understand love through the biblical lens is to truly unpack this timeless passage and its context and influence. There has always been so much speculation and intrigue surrounding the true meaning behind John 3:16, but it essentially summarizes God’s desire for relationship with humanity and returning to right relationship through grace and salvation.
John 3:16 asserts that God’s love for all of humankind is unwavering and unconditional and is found through relationship with his only Son Jesus Christ who led him to sacrifice Jesus as a gift to us.
