This week we look at Paul’s letter to the Philippians which is unique—Most of Paul’s letters call for some form of correction either in terms of doctrine or practice. The Galatians had fallen into a pattern of works of righteousness; the Corinthians had a whole plethora of issues with all kinds of sin; the Romans couldn’t get along with anybody; and the Thessalonians doubted Jesus deity and were losing heart.
But the Philippians for the most part were celebrated by Paul. They are doing most things right. Over and over Paul encourages them to stay the course. Paul had strong affections for the Christians at Philippi encouraging them, “make my joy complete by being like-minded, by doing everything without selfishness, by loving one another” (Phil 2:2)—Keeping His Greatest Commandment.
Keep working and growing in the direction Jesus has placed within your hearts—Love God and love one another by making, “Your attitude the same as that of Christ Jesus.” (Phil 2:5) Strive to mirror Him and specifically His attitude toward others. Join us this week at Sedona United Methodist Church as the Rev. Fred Mast shares a message entitled “If I Could Be Like Christ”.
