“How blessed are those who know their need for God?” Mt 5:2 That is in a nut shell how I would translate this beginning of Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount found in the beginning versus of the 5th Chapter of Matthew’s Gospel—A section that in the TEV Bible is entitled “True Happiness!” What does it mean to be happy? People everywhere are searching for this elusive feeling. Why does it seem happiness is always one step ahead or behind us? Humanity has been searching for true happiness over millennia. We may think of times when we were happy to be with loved ones, enjoy a well-earned holiday or accomplish something we had always wanted to do; but our lives seldom overflow with happiness continuously. After thousands of years, you would think that human beings would have figured out how to be happy—or at least have agreed on a definition of the word. Unfortunately, because happiness so often seems to be elusive, people often try to find it in all the wrong places. Many times they fall for an artificial happiness that they create with behaviors that give temporary pleasure.
Join us at Sedona UMC this week as Pastor Fred will present a sermon entitled “Rediscovering Our Need for God & Our True Happiness.” We will look at some of the places we mistakenly look for happiness and contentment—and rediscover the one and only place we can find a true and lasting happiness in our lives. Sunday mornings we enter the spirit of worship at 9:30 am featuring meaningful times of prayer, joyous music, and life messages that will help move you closer in your relationship with Jesus Christ. Our worship is upbeat and lively, we laugh, we cry, and most of all we welcome all as family. Our fellowship time immediately follows worship and features the best coffee, sweet treats, and friendship you will find anywhere. You can find us at 110 Indian Cliffs Road, at the Back O’Beyond roundabout on Route 179 in Sedona. Plan to make a morning of it because once you’re here you won’t want to leave—guaranteed! How about some early holiday shopping!
