There’s a new messenger at Sedona United Methodist Church. Rev. Jimelvia Martin was welcomed with open arms and a full house on July 6th as the new pastor at SUMC. She and husband Billy have come from North Carolina via Bullhead City and Phoenix. That southern drawl didn’t keep her sermon, “The Price of Freedom,” from ringing loud and clear as she compared the price our country’s founding fathers paid for our independence to the price Christians must pay to be true to their self and their beliefs. On Sunday, July 13th at 9:30 am, Rev. Martin will discuss the Parable of the Sower. Are you the seed that lands on the path? The rocky ground or among the thorns? How can we be sure to be the good soil that nurtures the seed that is the Word. How can we hear what is said and understand it?
Men’s Breakfast meets at 8:30 am on July 12th at the Golden Goose Café in West Sedona. Guest speaker is Ray Cota, Chief of Sedona Police Department. The Special Events Team is sponsoring a Holiday Boutique on November 15th. Church members have first dibs on tables but get them quickly! Everyone will be invited to host a table after September 15th. Start thinking about your fall activities. Do you love to sing? Join the chancel choir for Thursday evening practice! Do you want to know more about caring lay ministries? Are you a mom looking for a playgroup for your toddler? Time to discuss how the Bible relates to our daily lives?
