At the Sedona United Methodist Church on June 15, Rev. Nick Warner will be the guest preacher. The sermon will be “Zacchaeus, Misfits, and Resurrection Possibilities,” and the biblical text will be Luke 19: 1-10. Only Luke mentions Jesus’ encounter with Zacchaeus, and he places it as one of the last public acts of Jesus’ ministry, just before entering Jerusalem.
“It is as if Luke is making one final attempt to underscore the breadth and depth of God’s love for a wide diversity of people,” says Warner. People need not see themselves as “normal people” to be part of the church; in fact, we are all “misfits” like Zacchaeus. However, this specific story illustrates how Jesus is particularly drawn to those whom society marginalizes. There is new hope–resurrection hope–for everyone because of this. Worship at SUMC begins on Sundays at 9:30 am. Nursery care is provided and everyone is welcome. Please join us! Sedona United Methodist Church is located at 110 Indian Cliffs Road, off the Back O-Beyond roundabout on Route 179 in Sedona.
